On a fresh Saturday...after bunking a class and attending one...I had four options to spend my evening(Not including the random stuff done on your laptop and the screening of a documentary in LTC).One, go on and attend a crap exam conducted by some random institution coming to the campus which might offer you scholarship for GMAT/GRE based on your performance. Two,follow the pre-planned schedule of attending the first CAT class of the year at T.I.M.E institute.Third, the most easiest one of the lot,is to sit before the Television and cheer my favorite football club...Liverpool F.C when it takes on Arsenal F.C at Emirates stadium in North London.(Obviously heart was craving for it...was waiting for this match since a week).Fourth..and the option which I eventually took up was to attend the "Out of Box" (OOB) conference brought by Conquest 2011.
Conquest 2011 is the International Business Challenge and Entrepreneurship Conclave of BITS Pilani that invites most promising business startups to find the right investors and receive support of dedicated mentors.(A purely geekish sentence..which I managed to borrow from the introduction speech).OOB is a unique one of its kind. This conference has no subject..doesn't address a close community...isn't attended by a particular breed of people. As the narrator says...its motive is to capture the very essence of human spirit and to change the way life is perceived. And true to its word..it has struck a chord with me.The various speakers were Dr.Nampelumarsamy,a world famous ophthalmologist, founder of aravind eye hospital and featured in 100 most influential people in the world list in 2010...KTK Tulshi,a supreme court advocate who fought many high profile casses...Alphonse Kannan,an ex-IAS officer, was fully responsible for making kottayam India's first fully literate district(The best speaker of the day & seriously got a standing ovation)....Vasu Dixit,Composer, lyricist and Swarathma's renegade showman...Sharad Haksar, award winning ad man, revolutionary and creative photographer.
To put it together...everyone spoke about their success story.Everyone spoke about the importance of having an out of the box thinking which by their mere nature fall on the path of inspirational lecture.Every Entrepreneurial work showcased their desire to follow the path of excellence. They had the sense of risk taking attitude which eventually made them become the best. They enjoyed their profession. They displayed passion in their work. They hade the guts to chase their dreams. They had the vision of reaching an ultimate destination. They had faith in them. They had the courage to face every challenge which blocked their way. They had the self-belief which made them to stand up to their full height when it mattered the most. They were never feared of facing obstacles...they hade the ability and talent to convert every one of those into their strengths. For all...(as the speaker says)failed entrepreneurs are far more valuable to this society.Every story depicted a long-fought-struggle.The one which lasted for years in their carriers.yet, beating them all..they were standing before us!(May be..it takes a special nerve for mattering the most!)
Leaving the hall...I couldn't do it without appreciating their inspirational speech.I was touched enough..to walk up to the speakers and say with my full heart..."Awesome speech sir!".May be it was just one of many admiring comments which they got...but I had to complete my part in it.
On the way back to the room...the long walk was set up by the perfect timing of fall of the dusk. The perfect Twilight strike! Then looking back at the day..I though I made the right choice by attending the seminar. Then I remembered a saying.."When you have a choice..make it count!" :)
